Tayla Davis hails from a small coastal farm town in Rhode Island. Growing up she was exposed to all kinds of music from her dad who was a drummer in different bands of varying genres from metal to contemporary Christian and seemingly everything in between. Her brother Jake is also a talented musician, mainly focusing on lead guitar. Through this exposure she gained an appreciation for all kinds of music. She taught herself to play guitar when she got tired of asking
her brother to learn songs she wanted to sing. Despite her love of music, singing and playing, her other passion, horses, always took a forefront in her life. Shortly after college she began working and traveling all over on the horse show circuit, but always kept her guitar and notebook handy and would hit up local open mics wherever she traveled.
After experiencing a tragic loss, Tayla shifted her focus and took a new direction in life. She embarked on a solo road trip with her dog Gypsy, driving all around the country in search of the beauty in this world and did some serious soul searching. Along the way she ended up in Nashville, TN for the first time and stumbled into the music scene. She didn’t stay long the first time around, but soon after she purchased a vintage camper to call home and set up camp in
Franklin, TN. She was quickly embraced by the local scene and assembled a band, fondly referred to as “The Cold Snacks”. Her time on the road inspired most of the songs on her debut studio album, set to be released this October.
While Tayla’s writing style and sound certainly leans country, its hard to describe it as just that. Some of her first introductions to country music were not through the traditional path of growing up on Conway, Waylon, Dolly and Johnny, she discovered that later. Instead, Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson’s first records were some of what drew her to the genre. She loved the way they blended country sounds and writing with a rock ‘n roll feel and from there she fell in love with the stories, sounds and attitudes country music had to offer. Some of her role models in music today include Elizabeth Cook, Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, Morgan Wade, Maren Morris and Lainey Wilson. With influences growing up like Rush, The Eagles, Tom Petty and Sting, and her more eclectic taste in music which ranges from Mumford & Sons to My Chemical Romance, she has created a sound and songwriting style that is authentically and unapologetically her own.
“I love music because of its ability to reach and resonate with whoever needs it. I love being able to connect with people through my stories and songs. What we all go through on this journey of life is so different and unique, music’s ability to connect on an individual level is special. That’s why I write songs and make music, to make sure people know they’re not alone, whether it be in their hurt or happiness. I write my own truths, and it never gets old when my music resonates with someone. I am proud of the music I make, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoy making it.”
